PLAY International Music + Film Festival

This weekend Amsterdam is the place to be. Besides the established IDFA festival, PLAY, the music film festival organized by Amsterdam pop venue the Melkweg, will have its first edition. From November 17 to 20 film and music will be staged in every hall of the Melkweg. PLAY shows music films, fiction films and documentaries, but also concert recordings, short films and music videos. Within the program, much attention is paid to the crossover between film and music. Besides the screenings, various concerts and performances will take place.

For its first edition PLAY is working together with organizations from both the music- and film industry; IDFA has compiled a program of international music documentaries, in which seventeen recent documentaries will compete for the IDFA Award for Best Music Documentary; the International Short Film Festival GO SHORT and PLAY have created the short film collection Rocking Shorts; and together with the SUBMARINE CHANNEL, the festival will present a program that researches the development of classical music videos and compares them with contemporary interactive apps and crowd source projects. A selection of these innovative projects will premiere at PLAY.  To complete the picture, PLAY will have a special guest for their Artist in Focus, the British Grammy Award winner, documentary filmmaker and musician Don Letts…

If you happen to be in Amsterdam this weekend, don’t miss the chance to enjoy the cross over between music and film during this special event! Enjoy!
