The 64th annual Sydney Film Festival welcomes the world’s best new films to Australia for 12 days and nights of inspiring and entertaining premieres, talks and parties.

Each year, the festival takes over cinemas across Sydney to screen more than 200 brand new features, documentaries, Australian films, restored classics and short films you won’t usually find in the multiplex. Sydney Film Festival is a highly anticipated cultural event in Sydney and well-established on the international film festival circuit.

7 awards for feature films, short films and documentaries, including the prestigious Sydney Film Prize celebrating the year’s most ‘courageous, audacious and cutting-edge’ cinema.

Cash prizes and grants for winning films worth $150,000, recognising outstanding filmmakers and screenwriters.

Filmmaker guests invited to participate in talks, screening Q&As and the red carpet Opening and Closing nights.

Awards

The Sydney Film Prize: A cash prize of AUD$60,000 goes to the winner of the Official Competition, judged by five international and Australian filmmakers and industry professionals, for “audacious, cutting-edge and courageous” films.

Lexus Australia Short Film Fellowship: Up to four filmmakers will receive a $50,000 Fellowship grant to help make their next short film.

Documentary Australia Foundation Award: A $10,000 cash partnership and $5000 donation from an SFF Director’s Cut patron are awarded in total for excellence in documentary production.

Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films: The Dendy Live Action Short Award presents a $5000 cash prize to the best Australian short (and winners are eligible for the Academy Award); the Rouben Mamoulian Award provides a $5000 cash prize to the best Australian short film director; and the Yoram Gross Award presents a $5000 cash prize to the best Australian animated short film.

UNESCO Sydney City of Film Award: Screen NSW awards a $10,000 prize to a NSW-based screen practitioner whose work displays innovation, imagination and high impact.

Event Cinemas Australian Short Screenplay Award: A $5000 cash prize for the best short screenwriting (all Australian short films screening in the festival are eligible).

Foxtel Movies Audience Awards: The SFF’s people’s choice awards, presented for best narrative feature and best documentary.
