Here are the newbie film festivals on the Oscar qualifying list

The ballots have been sent out and the Academy are casting their votes. Now it’s time to start thinking about your route to the Oscars. Take a look at the latest list of Academy Award Qualifying Festivals for inspiration.

From our official media partner – Ismael Martin’s Blog:

In total there are 9 new festivals accredited by the Academy:

  1. Alcine (Spain)
  2. Animator International Animated Film Festival (Poland)
  3. Animest (Romania)
  4. Brozelens (United States)
  5. Go Short (Netherlands)
  6. Hollyshorts (United States)
  7. Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (United States)
  8. The Pan African Film and Arts Festival (United States)
  9. Regard – Sanguenay International Film Festival (Canada)

Amongst these festivals is Alcine – the Festival internacional de cine de Alcalá de Henares. With its addition there are now 5 Spanish festivals accredited by the Academy (including the Goya Prize). Alcine is the 1st Spanish festival to be accredited for its national section.

In addition there are 3 other festivals specializing in short films – Regards in Canada, Go Short in Holland and Hollyshorts in the United States. Two more animation festivals have also joined the list – Animest in Romania and Animator in Poland.

Another feature of this new update has been the commitment to festivals focusing on specific societal groups, including Brozelens and the Pan African Film and Arts Film Festival, which are both dedicated to the cinema of people of color. Additionally, Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival is focused on films with themes related to Asian Americans and the inhabitants of the islands of the Pacific Ocean. These new festivals join the Urbanworld Festival, which had already been accredited.

There are also 3 new festivals accredited from Los Angeles, which brings the total number of festivals in a single city to 6 – with no less than 9 festivals alone in the state of California, all of whom you can see below:

  1. AFIFEST
  2. Hollyshorts
  3. Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival
  4. Los Angeles Film Festival
  5. LA ShortsFest
  6. Palm Springs ShortFest
